Biography

Celia studied architecture at the University of Cape Town and the AA School of Architecture in London.  During her undergraduate years she received the Aluminium Prize of Southern Africa and the Molly Gohl Memorial Prize, for the best women student in third year.  In her practical year she worked in the offices of Erio Hofmann Architects in Salzburg, Austria and received the Osbourne Prize for best work done in the external experience year.  She returned to the University of Cape Town to complete her postgraduate studies.  She won the Murray and Roberts Des Baker Award for Students of Architecture, achieving joint first prize in the International Student’s Design Competition to celebrate the first Congress of African Architects.  She also qualified for inclusion on the Dean’s Merit List.

Celia consolidated her learning by working in the offices of ACG Architects, Cape Town and Meyer Pienaar Architects, Johannesburg.  She then furthered her studies in London at the AA School of Architecture where she earned a Masters degree in Housing and Urbanism, graduating with distinction.

She returned to South Africa to gain valuable experience working with KRL Architects in Johannesburg.  She set up her own practice in 2003.  In 2009, she moved to Somerset West, in the Cape winelands, with her husband and two daughters.  She designed a new home for her family, where she now runs her architectural studio.
